The serious issue of mental health, especially among young people, is something very close to my heart.
Mental health is something everyone has, it is, in essence, your state of mind. The mind is your emotional heartbeat but is fickle, complex and for many, difficult to understand and manage.
For me, fitness and exercise has always been a healthy outlet for the stresses of modern life and has helped me cope in so many ways. Seeing the explosion of mental health issues in our youth inspired me to take action and so I developed my own “Exercise Your Mental Health” workshops.
I visit local schools and discuss with students my own personal experiences with mental health and explain to them how keeping fit can help them with the challenges of growing up in a social media dominated world. I then take the students outside for some fun-filled and friendship building exercises.
I have gotten great feedback from students, teachers and parents alike and my workshops have featured in local as well as national newspapers – click here to see me feature in the Irish Examiner.
