In my final article in this series, I discuss some of the mental challenges competitors will
face during Sundays Cork City Marathon.
Educating and then preparing yourself properly for these challenges will prove invaluable on race day.
One of the topics I discuss is the dreaded “wall”. “The wall” is a term used by runners to describe a
point in the race where their body cannot cope with the pressure it’s under and hitting the wall can be a
difficult and a very unpleasant experience but knowing about it and preparing yourself mentally for it
could be the difference between you finishing the race and pulling up.
I hope people found my articles helpful and if you are taking part this Sunday I wish ye all the very best!
And remember to enjoy it and savour the atmosphere as it is one of the great sporting occasions in Cork.
